Wellness Cryotherapy Cold Spa

F.A.Q.

While it is completely safe for you to do cryotherapy every day, most of our clients choose to come 2-3 times per week.

We target a specific area of the body (the area you want gone) and contour and reduce fat through a fat freezing process called “cryolipolysis” which literally translates into cold (cryo) fat (lipo) destruction (lysis). At 39°f fat cells freeze and break apart, allowing the body to remove them permanently. A single treatment takes about 30 minutes and multiple applications are needed to achieve desired results. The most common side effects include redness, bruising, swelling, tingling or numbness of the treated area.
The treatment is done manually, starting with a stream of pressurized cold CO2 that rapidly cools the treatment area and begins to freeze the fat. After the area is cooled down adequately enough for the fat cells to freeze and die, a massage technique is done with a frozen attachment. The massage helps the dead fat cells break away from the surrounding tissue for the body to dispose. The purpose of the treatment is to lower the temperature of the fat cells enough to reduce fat without harming surrounding tissue.

While Whole Body Cryotherapy (WBC) is not FDA approved, there are a lot of studies showing the effectiveness of WBC. Cryotherapy has been around since the 80’s but until recently, has been limited to only athletes and the rich. Cryotherapy is becoming widely accepted and relied upon for sport and exercise recovery, weight loss, muscle pain, mental health, Alzheimer’s and Dementia treatment, spinal health, treatment of arthritis (WBC invented for arthritic patients), and treatment of chronic pain conditions.  One research paper concluded its study by saying,

Based on the findings here collected, the majority of evidence supports effectiveness of WBC in relieving symptomatology of the whole set of inflammatory conditions that could affect an athlete. A small number of studies that did not report any positive effects should, however, not be neglected. The same applies to improvement of post-exercise recovery, and noteworthy, to limiting or even preventing EIMD. The perception of WBC is changing from a conventionally intended symptomatic therapy to a stimulating treatment able to enhance the anti-inflammatory and -oxidant barriers and to counteract harmful stimuli. Importantly, cooling effectiveness depends on the percentage of fat mass of a subject and the starting fitness level. These results, combined with evidence that WBC somehow mimics exercise, at least in its ability to induce a pulsatile expression of myokines (IL-6, irisin), open another window of possible therapeutic strategies for obesity and type 2 diabetes.
As above highlighted, some of the applied WBC protocols have been ineffective in inducing appreciable modifications of certain biochemical parameters. However, in these cases, the final clinical output (in a subjective assessment: in terms of pain, soreness, stress, and recovery) was significantly improved even when compared to other recovery strategies.
WBC, used either as a therapy or stimulation, is a medical treatment and as such it has contraindications and standard safety procedures. The undeniable risks for the users can be rendered negligible if all the procedures are conducted following precise rules under supervision of highly-skilled personnel. If these procedures are carefully followed, WBC is absolutely safe.
The scientific debate on WBC, often shaded by non-scientific discussions hold in newspapers and web dictated by curiosity or accidents (recent incident in a non-controlled cryocabin), needs consensus and international cooperation for building up wide and controlled studies.

We will customize the temperature to your specific needs and comfort level. Typically clients choose temperatures between -130°F and go as cold as -195°F (temps that your body actually feels – don’t be fooled by places that tell you it is -200°F or colder, if your body was feeling that temp you would not be ok). It takes a minute or two for the cryo sauna to reach these temps, so in a typical 3 minute session you may only be at your max (coldest) temperature for the last 60-90 seconds. Again, we can control the temperature and will find a temperature that is safe and comfortable for you. Come check it out and see how low you can go!

If it is serious cold that you are seeking, we can show you why we believe we have the coldest cryo chamber in town. Or just ask one of our loyal clients!

Many studies have been done on cryotherapy and have reported very positive “side effects”. Some active members report reduction in cellulite, firmness of body mass, some tightening of skin, and improved immune systems.

There have been historical occurrences, many of these by operators who do not follow the recommended treatment regimes, where people have experienced frost bite. We do not allow anyone to undergo therapy for longer than 3 minutes. To protect you from any adverse effect we will provide you with warm, clean gloves, thermal socks and booties and educate you of the safety standards and all details of the treatment. Additionally, a trained, certified, friendly freeze staff member will be there to keep you safe while you reinvigorate your body and mind in the cold chamber.

Because of the extreme cold exposure and rapid change in skin temperature, your body produces heat internally to warm itself back up. This process is called cold- induced thermogenesis.

One session of whole body cryotherapy has been shown to burn between 500 and 800 calories. That’s a lot of calories that get burned for standing in a tube for 3 minutes!

A 2018 study in the Journal of Obesity found that cold-induced thermogenesis led to an overall loss of body mass particularly around the waist by an average of 3%.
